Nursing has certainly come a long way in the past few years. The role of the nurse has changed hugely; he or she now nurses in a wide variety of different environments, sometimes isolated from other colleagues. He or she may work in the community setting, for example, or as a nurse specialist, caring for patients and prescribing care and medication with a large measure of autonomy.
